Walls

Today is all about walls; two types of wall indeed as that is what has been achieved.

First of all, the brick wall. This was left at about 4 or 5 courses yesterday and when the men arrived (and I had let them in as I forgot to unlock the door) Sally cracked straight on with making it higher. Bekir and his son, Halil, for their part were working on the partition wall that will go between Rosie's playroom and bedroom. Once we had agreed that the doorway between the two rooms would go in line with the existing one into the Kitchen, he measured and situated the first upright to plumb all the rest off. He was using my dad's old drill, nearly as old as I am, and the traditional technique of plugging the hole with a wooden wedge and screwing into wood. It really does well well. While this was going on Sally's wall was growing apace.

After lunch there was more of the same; Bekir and Halil working on drilling and cutting (using the chainsaw of course) and then fitting the uprights and the noggins while Sally worked away steadily on his wall and by the end of the day both were looking amazing. The door gap in the brick wall will be filled in; it has been left to facilitate access to Rosie's Room without having to go through the kitchen.

So there you have it; it's a successful building day; in other progress A got out and picked up some brilliant lights for the rooms and we're starting to think about plug socket positioning and other things. Next it'll be the bane of A's life - tile shopping!
