All about shelving

Today has been a very busy day all round as I've cracked on with my chores as well as done a bit of hobby.

The snow last night settled over night but it wasn't that much; I did have to clean the windscreen on Thomas to drop Rosie down but we were only just above the snowline; only a very little distance down the hill and the snow turned to rain. The men were in and got stuck into their first task, to shave the kitchen door down so it shut properly, and then they spent the rest of the day on the main task which was fitting the brackets to the walls for my shelving. I was up in the roof clearing (no pictures yet; it's still a mess) and also did a lot of shredding of cardboard. I've lots more to do. The men managed to get all the shelving finished that I have current plans for which was awesome. This even included the shelves next to the printer. All the black plastic shelving that has been freed up will now go to the roof space to help me tidy up there. What great success.

So there you are; we've almost run out of odd jobs inside for them to do so I'm hoping if they come back tomorrow we can FINALLY make a start on the workshop!!! Thanks for reading.

And the workmen are done

Hello again, another short one as I'm tired (though not as tired as I was last night - I was in bed for 9 and slept right through until 6.30am!) and I want to spend time with A, who is ever more tired that I am today. It's been an exciting day of progress, though, topped off by the final pictures you'll see in the update. So let's get this going.

When I woke it was a cooler morning with mist in the air, but stunning. The moon was still up and above the misty landscape and my photograph really doesn't do it justice. I was out onto the balcony a couple of times to get pictures as the sun came up however it was too cold for A so we didn't take our morning cuppas out there, sadly. The forecast is to rain all next week, when I'm not here, so this cooling down may be a pre-cursor.

When A went to collect the men I did my chores and then finally got myself into gear to start the process of bringing the wood to the outside store. I did four or five barrows full before they arrived back, which is a good amount that will now get stacked away by A (who is far better at this task than I am). I then went and helped the men to bring the big units into the Games Room, which was fun as they are very heavy, while A made an amazing porridge for breakfast. With the corridor now cleared of units Hikmet went back up his scaffold and recommenced scraping. Bekir focused on fixing the units to the walls and making them square and straight while Mesut made himself useful around the Games Room touching up bits of paint and other tiny things that caught his eye; eh's a good worker.

We have noticed recently that Thelma has had an intermittent limp, but she never complains. Anyway A noticed a little thorn in her paw and then found another so she checked her and Louise fully. Thelma lays there so calmly while Louise wriggles and struggles. They are funny in how they are so different. Bekir was, in the meantime, making good progress getting the units fitted to the walls. I did make sure he made use of the spirit level to get the units actually straight. How he stands on the very top of that ladder does freak me out, though. In the corridor the rubble was starting to build up again; I'll be pushing Henry around tomorrow morning I think. With the single unit fixed Bekir moved to the double while Mesut continued cleaning and finishing the rest of the room.

With the units on the walls that was the Games Room completed (no picture for you yet, though) and Bekir began working through the list of odd jobs we had for him. First of all he put the fly screen on the window in the Games Room where it was missing, and then hinged the other one that had been fixed in place with no hinge by the people doing the insulation. Mesut he got to work on the unfinished parts around the guest room bathroom. The other tasks included putting the curtain back up in the nook and fitting shelves for A in the kitchen units. We didn't quite get everything done but it was close; nothing that was missed is vital for now. Hikmet, for his part, made loads of dust and then spent the final time tidying up.

And so that was that; the men finished all the jobs so we paid them off and I took them home. It'd been a really busy day for me, work wise, and so I rushed back to eat my dinner during a phone call and then I've been waiting for another one since. In that time I took the opportunity to go and set the gaming table up in the Games Room and so, below here, I present four views of the Games Room; I am very pleased and very excited.

I'm pretty pleased!

So with the workmen done the regularity of these updates will reduce as well. I'm not totally sure when I'll be back as I'm away on business next week and then we are on holiday for a while after that as well. I'll try and return as soon as possible, probably in a week or maybe a bit more. Thanks for reading, and I hope you read me again soon.

A very relaxing and enjoyable weekend

Hey all, I'm sat here Sunday evening after playing a game (we're actually half way through it) and I'm pretty tired but gonna power through this update. We do not have the workmen tomorrow either so I'll probably not update tomorrow as well.

Saturday dawned a bit chilly and quite hazy. The sun was out, though, and while the breeze was cold when the clouds let it through the sun was warm. A headed into the Art Room with Henry and cleaned up the dust; I gave a quick hand with reaching the higher parts of the windows where the old stickers are now peeling off having been in direct sunlight for 4 years. After this A headed in to town to do some shopping and while she was out I grabbed Henry and set to on the corridors and Room 13; it was pigging and that being done makes such a difference. I did spot that my laziness about plug sockets was a mistake and A picked up another fourteen double sockets (my Business Partner will know my addiction to never being short of plug sockets) of the better type so Bekir will have to redo them in the Art Room. A got back after quite a mission in town and around lunch time I headed down to read and then snooze in the sun on the swinging chair.

I did some model work in Room 13 while A headed into the Art Room to paint and after a while I went through, dragged a chair in, and sat to watch and enjoy spending time with her. The sun was out by now and the puppies fell asleep on the rug, mirroring each other as they so often do. It even got a little bit warm and so they were shifting in and out of the sun, and Thelma had some huge rolls on the rug. Louise was in a clingy mood, as always, and jumped up to see me several times. Thelma, for her part, hates having her picture taken and this is the look you get when you persist in snapping pictures. This room is amazing though; A was commenting on how much she loves it and I really enjoyed sitting in there with her; I had to drag myself out and back to my hobby bench as I wanted to get her minis finished for a game on Sunday. We had a short game after dinner which went badly with poor dice rolls but was still fun; it was new forces for both of us and it's good to mix it up, but we were both pretty tired so went to bed after that.

I slept badly, there was music from a wedding again (as there is now) but didn't lie in too much and we headed onto the balcony with our morning cups of tea. It was again a lovely morning with quite  a chill breeze blowing in but it was nice enough to stay out for a while. We let Sassy out to hop around and she was having a great time howevr when it cam time to go inside she hid and I had to find her and put her back in her run manually. I spent the rest of the morning painting miniatures and relaxing as you should on a Sunday.

The rest of the day was spent playing another quick game and then A painted while I did some miniature stuff and went and sat with her for a bit again. We also went onto the balcony to catch the sun and play with the puppies, though Louise was more interested in cuddles than chasing anything apart from Thelma's tail. It was a lovely day by now, though the breeze was still quite high. This is the way to spend a Sunday afternoon for sure.

We ate our dinner sat on the balcony and it was an amazing stew that A concocted and served in our Kavarma pots. The sun was still shining and it was great to sit there however we suddenly noticed that one of the trees, one of the ones I photographed for the last blog no less, is dead in the orchard! I headed down after dinner to water the trees and found no evidence of any attack apart from one solitary caterpillar. I can't believe it has been killed so quickly. As I watered around I checked and found no evidence of any other attacking creature. Gutted. We then set up for another game and this is now half way through as we were both too tired to finish it. I came through here and the moon was glorious however I wasn't able to get a good shot of the moon and the Tea Tree branches, so this is what you get.

So there you are - a really cool weekend but now I'm shattered so it's time for bed. I'll probably be back on Tuesday so don't wait for an update tomorrow.
