Good fences make good... puppies

We've had the pleasure of Bekci in our lives now for a week and in she has really started to settle in; actually she has settled in really well it is the interaction with Thelma and Louise that is being the most "fun".

The first priority of the Sunday was to get a fence made up to block off the entrance porch so Bekci could be kept safe while not being locked in the small puppy cage which was all we had at the time. A and I spent a little while, not too long as it happened, ransacking the green building for scrap wood from the old roof and putting together a very rough but effective fence to go across the front gap. To the side I made use of the old hatch that Bekir had put above the spiral staircase before the glass units were installed, and before the temperature got up we had finished and Bekci had a suitable place to stay. I rang Bekir to see if he could come and work for us but he said it'd be at least a week before he could get out so this would have to do.

A headed into town to get some toys and a larger water bowl for Bekci and when she got back we tried to get her interested but she was more keen on a cuddle. We also get her a lead so we could do the socialising thing with the puppies a bit easier. Of course puppies will chew ANYTHING and we have made the mistake of leaving Rambo's bed in the enclosure when she has been free a couple of times and she has chewed it to bits. As I've commented already the socialising with Thelma and Louise has not been all that smooth however we do think we see a slow and steady improvement from all sides. Bekci is very uninterested in the chickens and ducks so far, content just to watch them.

On Monday we had a call from Bekir saying he could come Tuesday, which was a very nice surprise, and so he get stuck in replacing our Heath Robinson attempt at a fence with a proper one with a gate that also extended out over some grass to give Bekci a much more suitable run. It took him a day to make, and made use of mostly scraps that we had lying around, and it was a pleasure again to have Bekir back on site and helping us. I think we'll have him returning with Sally in a couple of weeks to get the shuttering up underneath the eaves to stop the birds digging into our insulation and maybe a few other bits and pieces too before the winter.

So there you are; a quick update and I'm going to leave you with this video showing just how relaxed Bekci is already.

Thanks for reading.

  1. She is a really cute pup. Hope they all settle in well together. We will be getting a second dog when we move over. What is it you have under your pool in your video presumably it’s to stop it puncturing ?

    1. It is going to be a challenge; Thelma particularly is not that fond of any other dog ever :) we're getting there..

It is blue XPS - so the stuff you use to insulate a house. And yes, exactly; it's also a little more comfortable to sit on as it has a small amount of give.
