Walls and Electrics

In today's blog we will catch up from the end of last week and the beginning of this; Angela's update on Thursday was superb but the rest of the time was just too busy to get an update done so she sent me the pictures she took so let's get to it.

The men worked both Friday and Monday to get more stuff done in the roof. Halil, after they had started to put the walls up at the top of the stairs, suggested putting in a new doorway to improve access and he was totally correct to do so; it is so good that they care enough to think things through and not just blindly follow instructions. Bekir, for his part, decided to get stuck into the electrical move and he got the power for Room 13, the Games Room and Angela's Art Room (and maybe the guest suite as well, I haven't worked that out yet) all swapped over while I was not here to need power in Room 13 - more smart thinking. They also took down the blocks to make space for the new door and it really has made all the difference. Angela, as I've said, was super busy getting some cleaning and tidying down in Rosie's rooms and they are looking superb now. Rosie was very pleased to see how clean they were, and very happy to start messing them up again also.

And so to today which dawned very cold and lovely and bright. The sun went behind clouds early on but then it cleared and was lovely all day. Upstairs the men spent most of the day bringing blocks upstairs and then laying them for the walls of the corridor and it is now really starting to take shape. It's a really good sized space. After lunch they headed to the builder's merchant to get a few more bits and pieces such as armoured conduit for the power to the solar boilers, and light switches and back boxes. They have now begun the process of fitting these lights into the storage in the eaves and we've discussed where those switches will go.

So there it is; good progress but very soon it'll be the Christmas break and then we'll find out how much the men want to work into the winter. Thanks for reading, back tomorrow.

  1. How do you heat the playroom, art room, etc, all the misc rooms besides the one with the fireplace? Thanks!

    1. Rosie's rooms have air conditioning in them (so the play room and her bedroom). Every other room has a fireplace/wood burner in them. We do not often need them and rarely light any other fire other than down in the kitchen area.
