Metal is here!!

Today is a very exciting day as we have the materials for starting the car port roof. Let's get to it.

I went to bed at 8pm last night as I was so tired and woke this morning feeling refreshed, thankfully. It was a lovely sunrise and Rosie asked for pictures so I obliged her. The men were in and started the day cutting and splitting the logs. It was a warm enough morning though thankfully not as hot as it was even a few weeks ago. Halil was sharpening the blade on the chainsaw though I think we really need a new chain on it very soon.

The clouds were gathering all morning and towards lunchtime you could see lightning in the distance and, typically, just as the rain started falling the truck with our steel on it arrived. Fortunately the really heavy rain bypassed us and it turned out to just be a bit of a shower. The truck had a crane on it thankfully and after a quick dash to collect together a load of pallets to sit the steel on it was unloaded without problem (as you can see from the video above). When the truck left I found that it had been so heavy it had literally shattered stones in our driveway as it drove over them. Crazy!

With it still raining I suggested that the men do a few small inside jobs while it cleared so first of all they chipped away the rough bricks protruding into the gap under the stairs, and did a bit of a tidy in general as well. Then Bekir went up the ladder to change the bulbs on the landing as I'm not a fan of going up the ladder to do this. Coward, I know. After this the rain had stopped and it turned into a beautiful afternoon so they spent the rest of the time working on the wood pile. They tidied up all that they have so far cut and split and what they weren't able to throw inside through the window they covered with plastic in case of rain. From Monday they'll be starting to work on the roof and I'm very excited indeed!

So there it is; we've got our materials and Monday should see us start the new roof. I am very excited! Thanks for reading, back on Monday.
