Windows and doors

Today a big day for us as we were hoping that the windows and doors for the porch and the two storage bays would be delivered and fitted.

Very early dawn was lovely but then a fog came up that took a little while to burn off; when it did, however, it was a glorious day and it stayed lovely most of the morning. The men arrived slightly late, I was actually thinking that after working during the rain they would take the sunny day off, but they did arrive and got stuck in. The first task was to finish plastering the ceiling and walls in the porch which Sally got stuck into. Bekir was building the insulation channel around the toilet pipe from the downstairs toilet so he cleared out the woodshed and began that also. I was outside with Rosie while Angela went into town briefly for supplies and did some tidying up along the front. I found a length of wood with loads of nails coming out at all angles and Halil quickly dealt with it. Other than doing this Halil was painting woodstain on exposed beams around the roof.

The plan for the insulation was to box it all off with XPS and then surround that with wooden planks. This is inside the wood storage shed and therefore it needs to be quite strong as it'll have logs thrown on top of it. Angela got back from shopping with a new book for Rosie and a new Frisbee for Thelma however the Frisbee lasted only a couple of minutes before starting to break. Thelma still loved it and Rosie had a great time joining in as usual. Bekir was cracking on with the insulation and even had a little helper at times.

The window people arrived just after lunch to fit the windows and doors on the porch and the bay, which was super exciting indeed. We've chosen solid lockable doors for the bays so the toilet equipment is safe and also anything we store in the other bay as well, while the windows and door in the patio is perfect also. I spent a very tiring period of time going through the requirements we have for the balcony as I think I've worked out now what design we actually want. First of all I went through it with Bekir, Sally and Halil so Bekir can go and get quotes for steel and roofing materials and then we explained to the window man what we want, which took a lot of time. I was exhausted after that but I think so long as I can live without one of my kidneys we'll be fine - it is not going to be a cheap job. By the end of the day the insulation was done and Bekir was starting to fit the wooden protection while Sally was ready to begin the task of cementing around the windows and doors and making a windowsill on the outside so we can put flowers out there.

All around it's been a good day but really tiring; Rosie was down much earlier than she normally is and I had a really deep sleep for a short while on the sofa after dinner which was awesome but hurt my neck. Angela was a huge star and took Rosie outside while I had my nap and they had a lot of fun watching the sheep go down the lane and back.

Thanks for reading.
