Today marks a huge milestone in the blog - this is the 1000th published update since that first one way back when I had only just bought this place and everything was but a dim adventure seen stretching away in front. And what a journey it has been; so many people reading these updates, so many amazing memories as I look back over the posts and through the photos. Thank you, all, for following me on this crazy trip and for your views which give me encouragement to continue.
1000 posts. Crazy.
But, to today...

Continuing the deconstruction |
The day dawned overcast and quite cold and threatened rain though none came. Bekir and Halil were again on site early and got stuck in to the task of digging out along the front so the retaining wall of the patio would be as strong as possible. This was what they were on with all day, as they dug deeper and deeper, aiming to hit the rock beneath. They achieved this eventually and the trench is nearly as deep as Bekir is tall; this will mean the retaining wall is really REALLY strong which is what we want. After this (and uncovering another freaky doll head) they turned their attention to the steps as we are having these removed; we may decide to put them back this time but we may leave it; we're both unsure. There were some pretty huge rocks to move and with it done they recommenced digging here as well.

Bekir and Rosie |

A huge mess caused by the gas pipeline work |
The sun came out before lunch which meant I got a few minutes sat on the front lawn eating my butties; Angela was painting so I ended up sat out on my own but that was a peaceful time during a busy and stressful work day. When Rosie came home from school I was straight downstairs and outside with her; she got a cuddle from Bekir then I helped shift the soil that was being dug out into the raised beds before Rosie demanded a walk. This time we went up the hill, along our traditional Christmas Day route (I hope we can get back to that routine in the next year or so) stopping often to look at the little stream running down the drainage channel. We got up to where the gas pipeline is going across the lane and waited there for a bit for a digger to appear but none did. It was a lovely, longer than normal, walk and just what I needed.

The room that became our kitchen |
I'll leave you with just one "past" picture. This was taken on the first viewing of the school and this room has now become our kitchen. What a journey!
Thanks for reading :)
