Materials and trenches

After finishing the update last night I went straight to bed, no hobbying or anything. Thankfully this evening's update is going to be very much shorter than the epic yesterday.

I did go onto the balcony to take this short video of the night sky and the bats and frogs that populate it. Lovely.

It was a lovely early start to the day and Thelma enjoyed the sun but then the clouds started coming in. The first job for the men was to have a long conversation with me and plan the next work, do lots of measuring and work out quantities of materials. With this done Halil drove Thomas and they went and placed the order - it is great to not HAVE to go with them for things like this. After that trip they started to lift and dig out for the pipe that will be put in just in case we ever do get a borehole - this will bring the water to the main inlet for the house, and we will also have a feed to a tap on the new wall. Mid afternoon the first of a few deliveries took place, with steel mesh and wood and pipes and other things being delivered. After this was unloaded the rest of the afternoon was pickaxe and shovel work and they finished the trench. It was hard work through bed-rock in places but now we won't have to disturb the patio if and when we get the borehole. There was also quite a lot of disruption from very heavy rain showers (and big thunder rumbles) that came through a few times through the day.

When Rosie got back from school I was just finishing up some static grass on her model railway and then I took her for a walk to a puddle on the lane. She watched the cows going home and then splashed lots (and got soaked) and Usmivka came along and splashed with her. He is such a big kid! It did rain again while we were out but when we spent our time up on the balcony after this it cleared and now there is barely a cloud in the sky.

So there it is; shorter but still some really good progress today. Thanks so much for reading.
